Labour’s Bev Craig has told GB News she will “build on the legacy” of her Manchester Mayor predecessor Andy Burnham.
Ms Craig said the “resounding result” gave her the confidence to serve nearly three million Mancunians.
“And to have the resounding victory that we’ve had just fills me the confidence, really, that people in Greater Manchester believe that we have been making a great difference and want to see us building on the legacy of what we’ve created and go even further,” she said.
She also reiterated policy commitments – namely free buses for 11 to 18-year-olds, which would “give families up to £500 each”.
“You know, these are practical things that I don’t think are driven by ideology, but are driven by the fact that everybody in every tiny village and city in Greater Manchester wants to live a good life,” she added.

The former Labour leader of Manchester City Council also said the margin of victory went beyond the “Burnham bump”, provin that people wanted a Greater Manchester Mayor who would not “tear everything up , but actually build on the legacy and the successes that we were trying to create”.
And when asked by GB News what three words she would use to describe her time as Mayor, she said “ambitious”, “realistic” and “delivery”.
