In today’s GB News Daily Reflection, we remember that the debt of our sin cannot be paid by any amount of good works. We remain helpless and desperate on our own.
“There was a master who had many servants when the time came to settle accounts with his servants. A man came forward who owed him 10,000 talents. Unable to pay, the master ordered that he, his wife, and his children, and all he possessed be sold to repay the debt in the ancient world. 10,000 talents was an astronomical son.

“One talent equaled roughly 20 years of a day’s laboured wages, so the debt represented 200,000 years of work, impossible to pay back without outside help. The enormous penalty matched the scale of the offence. Jesus used this hyperbolic number to illustrate humanity’s infinite moral debt to God. We are spiritually bankrupt.
“Yet though our sins are great, his mercy is greater. God himself provides the payment through His Son on the cross. As this verse from Colossians chapter two declares, God forgave us all our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness which stood against us and condemned us. He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”
