Humanoid robots have competed in a weightlifting event for the first time at the World Humanoid Robot Games at Beijing’s National Speed Skating Oval.
Four robots entered the heavyweight competition, each starting with a 15kg barbell.

During one lift, a humanoid robot lost its balance and toppled toward the judges’ table. Officials immediately halted the competition and declared the attempt over.
Other events included cheerleading and bottle-opening competitions.
The games, now in their second year, feature 51 events, including 30 sports competitions and 21 scenario-based contests, and run until August 26.
