GB News Reporter Isobel Feculak has joined the team at Whipsnade Zoo for their annual weigh in of their resident animals.
Speaking to elephant keeper Olivia, she revealed how difficult it is to weigh and analyse the elephants at the zoo.

She told GB News: “It’s not actually too difficult. All our elephants are really well trained, and they are involved in what’s called positive reinforcement training.
“So by coming on to the scales, they get a nice little treat. We have what’s called the training biscuit that we’ve created which is loads of hay and nutrients, it’s just really yummy for them, a bit like a dog biscuit really, and they love coming onto the scales for that.
“We’ve got metre long target sticks as well to keep ourselves nice and safe whilst we’re training them, but it’s quite fun. They have the choice whether they want to go on the scales or not, if they don’t want to do it that day, we’ll just try again another day.”
