Dozens of car parks across the UK have been closed after one of the UK’s largest parking operators went into administration.
NCP car parks announced in March that it had entered administration, with consultancy giant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) overseeing the operations.
Prior to going bust, NCP employed more than 680 employees and managed 340 car parks nationwide, although many have since closed, with new owners taking over.
PwC stated that NCP had struggled in recent years as a result of the pandemic and changing working patterns after Covid, especially in city centres and commuter locations.
The first closures of “commercially unviable” sites were carried out between March 27 and April 16, while other loss-making sites have also been sold.
PwC said: “NCP now has insufficient cash available to meet its financial obligations and the Directors have therefore taken the decision to appoint administrators.”
NCP has exited a handful of sites, although new operators now manage these car parks in cities including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester.
