Two men charged with attempted murder after attack on Sara Sharif's dad in prison

Two men have been charged with the attempted murder of the father of Sara Sharif in HMP Belmarsh.

Urfan Sharif, 43, and Sara’s stepmother Beinash Batool were sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted at the Old Bailey of killing Sara at their home in Woking, Surrey.

The Crown Prosecution Service said Steven Sansom and Adam Watson have been charged with the attempted murder of an inmate in Belmarsh prison on New Year’s Day last year, confirmed to be Urfan.

Detectives confirmed the pair are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 26.

It is understood the charges relate to an incident in which Sharif was allegedly ambushed in a cell at the category A prison by two inmates armed with the jagged lid of a tuna tin.
