A man has become the first person to be arrested in connection with anti-migration protests in Portsmouth last weekend, Hampshire Police said.
Hundreds of masked protesters blocked roads around the Port of Dover, causing major disruption around Britain’s busiest ferry port.
The following day, protesters gathered in Portsmouth after 120 migrants rescued in the Channel were brought ashore by two RNLI lifeboats, with demonstrators attempting to prevent coaches from taking them away for processing.
The 42-year-old man was arrested as part of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s extensive investigation following violent public disorder at Eastney Marina on Sunday.

Officers worked alongside the Border Force, Maritime & Coastguard Agency, RNLI and Portsmouth City Council at Eastney Marina following the arrival of a small boat crossing the Channel.
Police officers were deployed to the area.
The crowd of approximately 200 people dispersed at around 4am on Monday morning.
Several police, Coastguard and Border Force vehicles were damaged during the evening.
