Police shoot knifeman four times after he stabbed a woman in broad daylight in Luton

A man was shot four times by police after a woman was stabbed in Luton yesterday, triggering an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.

At 12.50pm yesterday, police were called to reports of a man threatening a woman with a knife on Cardigan Street in Luton.

Armed response officers attended the scene, with police discharging four shots and striking the man with a baton.

He was subsequently taken to hospital with life-changing injuries, the IOPC has said.
