A massive police operation has led to the seizure of more than a dozen supercars in Essex after they were caught driving dangerously.

In total, 13 high-performance cars were seized by Essex Police in response to dangerous and anti-social driving on the M11.

The seizure included police taking control of Lamborghinis, Audi R8s, a Ferrari and a Porsche last week.

It stated that the Essex Police control room had received multiple reports during the start of rush hour at around 4.20pm on July 28.

The reports outlined that a convoy of supercars had been travelling northbound on the M11 after joining the motorway from London.

Concerned members of the public claimed that the vehicles were accelerating at excessive speeds before braking suddenly.

Motorists were allegedly seen braking heavily, bunching together and disrupting the flow of traffic.

Other drivers on the motorway reportedly saw them using the hard shoulder to undertake road users on the M11.

Officers quickly located the convoy at the Birchanger Green Welcome Break service station at Junction 8 near Bishops Stortford.

Essex Police issued 13 warnings for anti-social driving, while all 13 luxury vehicles were seized at the services.

It confirmed that further enquiries are ongoing as Essex Police has identified a number of offences that have been flagged for investigation.

Sergeant Will Willsher, of Essex Police, said: “The behaviour reported to us was not only anti-social but potentially placed other road users at serious risk, especially on a busy motorway during peak travel times.

“Roads Policing Unit officers acted quickly to locate the cars and take appropriate enforcement action.

“Speed limits are there to keep everyone safe, and the law applies equally to all road users.”

Images posted by the police force show several bright vehicles being loaded onto a car carrier and flatbed trucks.

Essex Police has appealed to anyone who was travelling on the M11 at that time who may have dashcam footage to come forward.
