Nigel Farage ripped into France’s £1billion failure as he vowed to end illegal crossings “within a fortnight” of becoming Prime Minister.

Setting out the party’s ambitious “Operation Fortress”, Mr Farage and Zia Yusuf unveiled plans to deploy the Royal Navy into the English Channel to stop migrant boats and return them to France or Belgium.

Since Andy Burnham became Prime Minister a fortnight ago, Labour has watched more than 2,000 migrants illegally cross Britain’s borders – despite spending £1billion on a French deal in a bid to crack down on people smuggling gangs.

“The Australians faced all of these problems many years ago,” the Reform chief declared.

“They tried offshore processing, they tried a number of things, and in the end what worked was towing the boats back to Indonesia. And since then, hardly a boat has landed in Australia.

“I am entirely confident that under a Reform Government, within a fortnight, there would be no more boats. And whilst this issue may not be uppermost in the minds of many in Westminster, I can tell you out in the country it is.”

Mr Yusuf reiterated that Britain’s borders would be “impenetrable” under Mr Farage as Prime Minister.
