A man in his 20’s has been left with injuries described as potentially life-changing following a head-on collision on the M1 motorway.
The crash occurred near Wakefield late on Friday evening, just after 11pm, on the northbound carriageway close to junction 41.

A blue Kia Proceed was driven against the flow of traffic, according to West Yorkshire Police.
The vehicle had failed to stop before travelling the wrong way along the motorway, where it struck a red Dacia Sandero.

The Dacia’s driver was rushed to hospital, where he remains being treated for serious injuries.
Police have so far taken three people into custody in connection with the incident.
An 18-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a woman aged 30 were all detained on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving.
The 30-year-old woman faces an additional allegation of exceeding the legal alcohol limit, according to police.
All three suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that one individual fled the scene following the collision.
Three other passengers sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The force has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The crash is the latest in a series of devastating wrong-way driving incidents across the UK and Ireland in recent weeks.
Last month, PCs Tom Clough and Matthew Blades of Cleveland Police were killed when a Volkswagen Passat collided head-on with their vehicle on the A66 near Middlesbrough.
The VW was travelling in the wrong direction after a pursuit.
All five occupants of the Passat also died.
Those killed in the Passat were Jakub Matusiak, 23, Cole Robert Worthy, 17, Theo Rae, 17, Makai Saddington, 18, and Michael Robert Cahill, 23.
Just a week prior to that tragedy, five teenagers lost their lives after driving the wrong way along the M9 in County Kildare, Ireland.
The victims were identified as Joe Carthy, Alex McCarthy, Kamil Pustkowski, Jeremy O’Brien and Jack Kennedy.
Three adult sisters and a child travelling in the correct direction were also injured in that collision.
