Drivers are being warned of long delays on the M25 due to a road traffic accident, as thousands of drivers hit the motorway after the summer holidays.
The M25 in Surrey is closed anti-clockwise between J11 (Ottershaw) and J10 (Cobham) due to a Surrey Police-led incident.

The incident first occurred shortly before midnight on Monday night (August 31), with investigations carried out overnight.
Surrey Police confirmed that it had completed its work on the carriageway at around 6am, shortly before the rush hour surge in traffic.
However, the incident still needs to be cleared, which National Highways stated could take several hours.
It added that the closure is expected to remain through the morning peak travel period, marking a huge blow for motorists heading to work after the bank holiday weekend.
In its latest update, the transport organisation said the closure remains in place, and there is no estimated time of reopening.
The South East division of National Highways estimates that there are delays of 45 minutes on the approach to the incident scene in both directions.
A statement from Surrey Police confirmed that the M25 would remain closed due to a “serious collision”.
In addition to the closure between J10 (Wisley) and J11 (Chertsey), the A245 (Parvis Road) is also closed in both directions.
It added: “Please use diversion routes and avoid the M25 Junction 10 – Junction 11 as traffic queues are expected.
“If travelling to Heathrow and Gatwick airports, please check your travel time before you depart, as your journey is likely to be impacted.

“The road will be closed for a number of hours to allow a thorough investigation to take place. We will provide an update once the motorway reopens.”
National Highways reiterated these calls, noting that if the incident impacts someone’s planned route, they should allow extra time to travel.
It has outlined a diversion route for motorists stuck in the closure and anyone affected travelling on the M25 this morning.
Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs
- Exit the M25 at J11. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A320 St Peter’s Way towards Woking
- At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit and follow A320 towards Woking, through Ottershaw, to “Six Crossroads” roundabout
- Take the 1st exit onto A245 towards Cobham
- Turn right at the mini roundabout towards Cobham and left at the next mini roundabout
- Follow the A245 through West Byfleet and past Brooklands
- At the A240/B374 roundabout, take the 2nd exit
- At the A3 “Painshill Interchange” take the 3rd exit onto A3 towards Portsmouth
- Rejoin the M25 J10 at the Wisley Interchange to continue
