A self-proclaimed “lifelong Democrat” has admitted she is ashamed of the party after her son was killed in a car crash involving an illegal migrant.
Elizabeth Carter’s son, William Micah Carter, and his wife, Jennifer Lower, were killed in a car crash after their vehicle slammed into a jackknifed lorry in Oregon on November 24, 2025.

Mrs Carter told the US Congress’ House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security and Enforcement the couple had been married for less than a month and were returning from their late daughter-in-law’s reception at the time of the horror crash.
“Sixteen days after they were married, Billy, Jenny and her cat Bert were killed,” she said.

“They lost the Russian roulette game our Government is forcing them to play.”
Rajinder Kumar, 32, an Indian national who received his commercial driving licence (CDL) in California, was taken into custody on April 22 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice).
According to Ice’s parent agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Mr Kumar was released by Oregon “sanctuary politicians” on April 2 and refused to cooperate with the immigration body.
Responding to questions from North Carolina Representative Brad Knott, Mrs Carter said she was disappointed in how the Democratic party had handled the immigration crisis.
“We allowed 10 million people in under Biden,” she told the House.
“How is there a different suggestion as to how to process them, other than the same way they came into the country en masse, leaving?”
She added: “I feel like I have to say as a lifelong Democrat, I am ashamed of what my party is doing.”
Last week, Ice launched a tipline for reporting “CDL fraud” to prevent “reckless” illegal migrants killing Americans on the roads, citing Mr Kumar’s case, among others.

Mrs Carter told the subcommittee the Indian national had entered the US through Lukeville, Arizona in 2022 with the intent of working at his brother’s trucking company.
In written testimony, she alleged the illegal migrant lorry driver failed to notify authorities and did not put out any cones, flares or warnings his truck was jackknifed across both lanes of traffic.
She wrote: “We were told Mr Kumar did not speak English or Spanish and was issued a non-domiciled CDL by California.
“I cannot help but ask did the Commercial Driving School he attended teach him what to do in an accident and he simply chose not to, or did they not teach him what to do in the first place?”
Despite the 32-year-old truck driver being taken into custody by Ice, Mrs Carter has advocated for him to not be immediately deported and instead face trial in US courts, currently set for early January.
She wrote: “How does it serve the American people to deport individuals facing serious felony charges?
“The very least we owe our citizenry is the promise that if your life is taken on US soil, your country will pursue the responsible party in a court of law.
“An all expenses paid trip back to his wife and children in India does not feel like justice to me? Does it to you?”
In July, an Oregon court ruled he could be deported to India, but it remains unclear if he has been deported.
Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley said “due process is a central pillar” of the US constitution and urged Ice not to “frustrate the judicial process” by deporting the illegal migrant in a statement at the time.
