King Charles: Jamaica's slavery reparations petition slammed on GB News - 'Avaricious cash grab!'

Broadcaster and royal historian Rafe Heydel-Mankoo has accused the Jamaican Government of a “cash grab” over plans to hand King Charles a petition over slavery reparations.

He told GB News: “I’m afraid to say what we’re seeing now are parts of the world, particularly in the Caribbean, who are trying to exploit I would say, naive Western guilt in something which amounts to little more than an avaricious cash grab.

“There are real reasons for the failure of the Caribbean countries to reach the same sort of economic status as other countries in the West. But the problems that the Caribbean face are rooted very much in corrupt leaders, in incompetence and in economic mismanagement.

“But rather than live up to that, it’s far easier, of course, to blame current ills on a, you know, things that happened 200 years ago. The reality is, the Caribbean nations are beneficiaries of Britain’s imperial colonial legacy.”
