Joey Barton will remain in jail for the rest of the year after having his bail denied over an alleged assault at a golf club.
The 44-year-old’s bail application was denied by Judge David Potter, meaning he will be held at HMP Liverpool ahead of his trial next year.

Barton appeared via videolink on Monday before the Judge at Liverpool Crown Court, dressed in a grey zip-up fleece, and nodded when told he would remain in custody.
The 44-year-old faces a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent against Kevin Lynch, 51, following an alleged attack at the Huyton and Prescot golf club in Merseyside on March 8.

His trial has now been scheduled for March 8, 2027, one year on from the date of the alleged assault at the club, which charges annual membership fees of £1,440.
The alleged victim, who is a former non-league football manager and the founder of NexGen Academy, a special education school, was reported to have sustained serious injuries to his eye during the incident.
The pair had reportedly been drinking together at the golf club before the alleged attack took place.

Barton’s trial had originally been set to begin on September 1, but his barrister, Tim Forte KC, applied for an adjournment to allow potential new witnesses to be contacted, a request that prosecution counsel, Alex Leach KC, did not oppose.
Judge Potter ruled that “intractable problems” remained, which made it impossible for proceedings to commence as planned, and pushed the trial date back to March.
A pre-trial hearing has been listed for December 11.
Barton, who resides in Widnes, Cheshire, has been behind bars since his arrest shortly after the alleged incident.
During his playing career, the midfielder played for Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Rangers, Burnley and French side Marseille, earning a single cap for England along the way.
After hanging up his boots, he moved into management, taking charge of Fleetwood Town and subsequently Bristol Rovers.
He played 130 times for Manchester City between 2002 and 2007, playing 269 times in the Premier League overall.
Barton turned 44 last week on September 2.
Having been taken into custody in March this year, he now faces a wait before his case is heard.
