Andrew Kolvet, a close friend and colleague of Charlie Kirk, has described experiencing “the most excruciating year” as he reflected on the anniversary of the conservative activist’s assassination.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Kolvet said the anniversary had brought back “a lot of old emotions” as the family and colleagues of the late free speech advocate continue to grapple with his death while a criminal case proceeds.

“I can’t believe it’s been a year,” he said, adding: “Yet I feel like I’ve lived about ten lifetimes in the last year.”

Mr Kolvet described Mr Kirk as a “modern-day founding father” and a “Christian martyr”, predicting his true influence could take decades to understand fully.

“I think we won’t know his legacy for 40 or 50 years,” he said, hailing the young people who have been inspired by Kirk’s message.

“There is a certain tone where you can just tell that they have a spine of steel,” Mr Kolvet added.

Even so, Mr Kolvet revealed that those around Mr Kirk’s loved ones had barely had time to grieve, instead working “throughout the entire year” to build and grow Turning Point USA.

Despite the pain, he said the year had also been “filled with stretching and growing and a lot of miracles”.

The grieving friend said Mr Kirk remained an “ever-present inspiration” and that he was “reminded of him all the time”.

He also reflected on Mr Kirk’s Christian faith, saying: “I’m very confident that all those questions have been answered for Charlie. And he’s with our Lord.”
