Jan Solwyn, who worked on the frontline of Europe’s migrant crisis and is now a security researcher, has warned that European borders have become a political and social fault line, arguing that illegal migration has the potential to damage the European Union itself.
The former German Federal Police captain said hundreds of thousands of people in Germany have been ordered to leave but remain in the country, and warned that any serious attempt to enforce those deportations could face fierce resistance.
Mr Solwyn said police could find themselves confronting not only migrants, but activists and NGOs opposing deportations. He cautioned that we’d have a “civil war in major German cities”.
