Left-wing students are organising gatherings to celebrate and mock Charlie Kirk’s assassination one year after his death.
Students at the University of South Carolina have advertised a look-alike contest for the so-called “Kirkiversary” on September 10, one year on from the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder’s killing.
An anonymous screenshot from social media platform Yik Yak advertises the look-alike contest for 7pm on Green Street outside of the student union building, Russell House, with a $50 prize.
“Be there or be square,” the social media post continues – a play on a common taunt about Mr Kirk’s head shape.
The university has denied any involvement with the event.
“We have no record of any registered student organization planning such an event,” it said.
“No university resources will be used to support this.”
While the gathering was labelled “demonic” and organised by “a bunch of radical brainwashed leftists”, the screenshot only refers to it as the “Kirkiversary” and does not explicitly celebrate his killing.
The University of South Carolina’s TPUSA chapter is planning its own memorial on September 10 in a different area of Russell House between 6.30pm and 8pm and it is unclear if the two events are connected.
The university is not the only campus to allegedly organise a Charlie Kirk lookalike contest.
Students at Georgetown University in Washington DC promoted an event on anonymous social media platform Fizz.
“Charlie Kirk lookalike contest. September 10 2026,” the post read.
“Pull up to Copley Lawn to speak the truth while the cost is high.”
Georgetown’s TPUSA chapter said the event is likely mocking the conservative leader and has condemned the planned event, the group told Fox News.
Other left-wing students joked about current president of the conservative student group and widow of Mr Kirk, Erika, receiving her own lookalike contest.
One student at the elite private university commented: “Can the winner of the Charlie Kirk one be prom king with the winner of this?”

Another suggested the campus choral group The Georgetown Chimes should perform the AI-generated meme song “We Are Charlie Kirk”, created shortly after the conservative leader was assassinated on the Utah Valley University campus.
Heidi Sui, TPUSA’s Georgetown University Chapter President, strongly condemned any event which aims to “disrespect Charlie Kirk” in a statement to Fox News.
“These events are not representative of how Americans feel about Charlie and his legacy. To the millions of us who listened to his debates, Charlie never celebrated violence,” she said.
“But some liberal students do. And they are doing it right here — in our nation’s capital of all places.
“This reaction from Georgetown students should disturb us regardless of our political affiliation.
“There is a difference between disagreeing with someone’s politics and celebrating their death.”
Andrew Kolvet, a spokesman for TPUSA, said: “A culture that can no longer simply mourn the fallen, or respect them enough to at least keep their mouth shut, is a culture that has lost touch with a basic sense of shared humanity.
“Shame on any of the mockers and trolls who debase themselves by continuously proving Charlie outclassed them in every conceivable way.”
In a statement, a spokesman from Georgetown University said it was not planning an event and, to its knowledge, no student group had organised the satirical lookalike contest.
The university also condemned the language of the anonymous post and was “monitoring this closely” to ensure the safety of the community, adding that Georgetown University was “committed to ensuring that all members of our community have a safe and welcoming place to learn”.
“While Georgetown’s policies give latitude for the free expression of ideas and opinions, making light of a victim of violence is counter to our values and deeply disappointing,” the spokesman added. “Students are expected to know the policies that guide life on campus, including the Speech and Expression policy and the Code of Student Conduct.”
