In today’s GB News Daily Reflection, we consider the analogy of shopping while hungry to suggest that people often try to satisfy a deeper spiritual emptiness with worldly things.

In this, we find that Jesus Christ, the “bread of life”, is the true source of lasting spiritual fulfilment.

“We easily recognise empty bellies and we instinctively know that food is needed to satisfy our hunger pangs. But are we as perceptive to our spiritual hunger as we are to our physical hunger?

“One signal of being spiritually hungry is the constant presence of an inner dissatisfaction. It’s possible to have more than we physically need and still be unsatisfied and discontent.

“We then go shopping in all the wrong places, trying to fill that emptiness with things that don’t really fill us.

“If there is nothing on earth that can satisfy, that is a sign that we were made for so much more. While on earth, Jesus famously fed over 5000 people by miraculously multiplying a meagre portion of bread and fish.

“He then used that miracle to point to himself as the bread of life. Jesus not only provides for us physically, but he can also nourish us spiritually. He is the one our souls hunger for.”
