By refusing to keep the cycle of hurt going, forgiveness lets us choose mercy while still recognising appropriate consequences.

“Forgiveness means the cycle of hurt ends with me. I won’t seek retribution or lash out against those who’ve hurt me or anyone else.

“It invites us out of the vicious cycle of harm into a virtuous circle of mercy. It makes us and our world just a little bit better.”
