Drivers are being warned of serious delays in Merseyside as the police deal with a road traffic accident near a popular route in the area.
Merseyside Police has confirmed that emergency services are dealing with a “serious road traffic collision” inside the Queensway Tunnel.
The police force was contacted at around 1pm following reports of a single-vehicle collision involving an off-road bike.
It is believed that this traffic accident took place on the Birkenhead to Liverpool carriageway inside the Queensway Tunnel.
The Tunnel is currently closed as the police deal with the accident, with traffic growing around the Queensway Tunnel.
Warning local residents of potential delays, Merseytravel warned of congestion near the Tunnel and the impact it could have on motorists.
Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, it wrote: “Due to a Police incident, Queensway Tunnel is closed in both directions.
“All Arriva North West and Stagecoach MCSL Cross River services will operate via Kingsway Tunnel until further notice.
“All Cross River services will be subject to delays and cancellations.”
Merseyside Police encouraged motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes, with further updates expected to be issued when available.
