Donald Trump has vowed to hit Iran with a host of “crushing” economic measures in a bid to cripple the regime’s “maniacs” for good.
The President’s efforts to ramp up pressure on the Islamic Republic comes after he confirmed that negotiations between the two sides had been called off and the Strait of Hormuz was now “open and operating”.
The US and Iran had paused hostilities following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in June, which has since collapsed.
On his Truth Social platform last night, Mr Trump said: “No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran a greater opportunity to make a deal than me. Tragically, for them, they have failed to take it.
“Therefore, today, I am announcing the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country.”
The President touted the fresh measures as “economic warfare and isolation on an unprecedented scale”.
He continued: “Their navy is gone, their air force is destroyed, their military factories are now rubble, their currency is worthless, and their country is hanging by a thread.
“Today, I am also announcing that any country that allows its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or Government entities to provide any type of lifeline to Iran will itself face tremendous economic consequences.
“Oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies – It all needs to stop now. You know who you are.”
Mr Trump branded the sweeping action as “economic D-Day”, before calling on America’s allies to back efforts to “isolate and defeat the Iran threat”.
“These maniacs are on the ropes, and these historic measures will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide,” he added.
“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”

Iran has yet to respond to the President’s latest push to turn the screw on the regime.
Mr Trump’s declaration of unprecedented economic warfare comes after the Islamic Republic told him to “accept defeat” in the Middle East.
Last week, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, wrote on social media: “The strait will be closed and opened only under Iran’s command, and as long as you do not accept the reality of defeat and cease indulging in fantasies, Iran will continue to enforce the blockade.
“Once and for all, accept the reality: Up to this point, you have suffered strategic and heavy defeats; the Strait of Hormuz has been Iranian, and will remain Iranian.”
Meanwhile, the country’s judiciary chief, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje’i, branded Mr Trump a “fully fledged loser in the hard arena of politics and military combat”.
He insisted that “what multibillion-dollar aircraft carriers could not achieve will not be achieved with a few tweets and speeches”.
Mr Trump clapped back at the top Iranian officials during a political rally in New York.
He said: “After we finish defeating Iran… pretty soon I’ll be declaring the Hormuz Strait a territory of the United States.”
