Briton hails patriotic fervour of Gibraltar National Day as streets fly UK flags: ‘I can’t do this in my own country!’

Gibraltar’s National Day has been hailed for its patriotic fervour by a Briton who remarked: “I can’t do this in my own country.”

The Rock was celebrating the anniversary of the 1967 referendum, in which 99 per cent voted to retain British sovereignty over the territory.

The streets of Gibraltar were decked out in red, white and blue, flying the Union Flag alongside the Rock’s flag to mark the historic descsion.

Speaking to GB News, Suzie Baldwin, who was visiting the British territory, was awed by the outpouring of patriotism.

“It’s amazing. It’s respectful, it’s safe, and it’s patriotic. I can’t do this in my own country. It’s just phenomenal”, she said.

“I sang the national anthem without having to look over my shoulder, and I could be proud. It’s amazing here.

“It’s just phenomenal. I’ve had the best day ever. The Gibraltarians are just amazing. They’re so friendly and accepting. It’s just a brilliant country.

“It’s what England should be,” she said.

Gibraltar’s National Day comes as debates over patriotic Britons hanging flags around the UK rage on.
