Aberdeen’s ‘resilient, strong, hardworking people’ celebrated as Net Zero and family farm tax hammer communities

Aberdeen has been celebrated for its “resilient, strong, hardworking people” as Net Zero policies and the family farm tax hammer communities in the north-east of Scotland.

Speaking to Alex Armstrong, local farmer and businessman Euan Webster hailed what made the city, once “the oil capital of Europe”, special.

“It’s the people. Resilient, strong, hardworking people,” he insisted.

Mr Webster said these traits had become necessary as the North Sea oil industry dries up, prompted by Net Zero drives blocking extraction, and Labour’s family farm tax hitting rural communities across Aberdeenshire – famed for their Angus beef.

“This is an incredible place,” Alex agreed, adding: “a beautiful, beautiful city steeped in history. I’m thinking about places like Stonehaven, the beautiful old castle there, the ruins and one of the best chippies in the country.”
